Community Eye Programs

Restoring Sight, Restoring Dignity
At Bona Sentle Eye Center, we believe that access to quality eye care is a basic human right, not a privilege. Our Community Eye Programs are a vital part of our mission to bring restorative eye health services to underserved communities across South Africa.

Cataract Surgery Outreach

Cataracts remain the leading cause of preventable blindness in the elderly population. Through our Cataract Surgery Outreach Programs, we provide free or subsidized phacoemulsification cataract surgeries to those who need them most – especially the elderly, vulnerable, and visually impaired in rural and peri-urban areas.
Our outreach model includes:
•Screening Camps: Mobile teams conduct vision screening and identify operable cataracts.
•Patient Transport: We arrange safe transport to and from our surgical facilities.
•Same-Day Surgery: Using modern, safe techniques with minimal downtime.
•Post-Operative Care: Follow-up visits, medication, and support are included.

Partnerships That Empower

We collaborate with local municipalities, mining companies, non-profit organisations, and the Department of Health to:
•Reach high-need communities
•Reduce surgical backlogs
•Improve quality of life for the elderly
•Train local health workers in primary eye care
Every surgery performed not only restores vision, but also restores independence, mobility, and hope.
